During the past years of education and training of civil engineering, the mode of the college system, despite its several advantages, leads to insufficient communication and interaction between students of different majors. The engineering students' education is not oriented to practical projects, but mostly traditional courses. 

In order to satisfy new social needs created with the development of building technology, more than ten years ago, the Hunan University began to explore how to achieve education on sustainable architecture.

In 2002, Hunan University launched the Project of Technology and Education on Sustainable Architecture, and participated in the Project of Teaching and Research Awards (worth 500,000 yuan) for Outstanding Young Teachers at Higher Institution under the Ministry of Education.

In 2005, Hunan University figured out an interdisciplinary curriculum and education system concerning sustainable architecture, participated in the EU Asia-Link Project, and received a project support of 460,000 euros.

In 2012, Hunan University launched a platform for evaluating and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction (including green building evaluation and promotion). It participated in the Project of Strengthening Capacity to save energy and cutting emission initiated by Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission and obtained 29.8 million yuan of project funding.

Step by step, a professional and diversified education platform has come into shape. Our efforts and exploration have culminated in an interdisciplinary team and training system.
