Hunan Electric Power Administration
In April 1978, the Hunan Electric Power Administration, which is the predecessor of Hunan Electric Power (Electric Power Industry Bureau of Hunan), was established. At that time, it was affiliated to the Hunan Water Resources and Electric Power Bureau and was responsible for management of the power generation, supply and utilization of large power grid throughout the province, and offer of business guidance for local power companies.

In May 1980, the management of water and electricity was separated, the Hunan Water Resources and Electric Power Bureau and the Hunan Electric Power Administration were dissolved, and the Hunan Electric Power Industry Bureau was established.

In December 1992, the Hunan Electric Power Co., Ltd was incorporated, only different from the Hunan Electric Power Industry Bureau in terms of name.
On January 4, 2001, the National Economic and Trade Commission released Reply to the Abolishment of Hunan Electric Power Industry Bureau (No. 1225, issued on December 22, 2000). Under this instruction, Hunan Electric Power Industry Bureau was abandoned, thus the government’s function of power management was separated from the corporate function.
On January 21, 2003, Hunan Electric Power Company and China Datang Corporation signed an agreement in Changsha to officially transfer 8 power generation enterprises in Hunan: Hunan Huayin Electric Power Co., Ltd., Xiangtan Power Plant, Fuyang Power Plant, Shimen Power Plant (Phase I), Jinzhushan Power Plant, Zhuzhou Power Plant, Hengyang Power Development Co., Ltd., Zhangjiajie Hydropower Development Company.
On January 25, 2003, Hunan Electric Power Company and China Power Investment Corporation held a handover meeting for power generation enterprises, officially handing over Wuling Hydropower Development Company (including Wuqiangxi, Lingjintan, Hongjiang, Wanmipo, and Jinwei Isle). Majitang Hydropower Plant and Liyujiang Power Plant.
On December 9, 2011, China Power Construction Corporation and China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. were established. The power design institute, thermal power construction company, power wire plant, power and electric porcelain and electric appliance factory, and power equipment factory, which all had been affiliated to the Hunan Electric Power Company, were placed under China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd
